Fire Breaks Out In Dumping Yard In Daruthenga

Bhubaneswar: Fire broke out in the Bhuasuni dumping yard at Daruthenga on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar this evening. As many as 10 fire tenders have rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

Locals witnessed smoke emanating from the dumping yard at around 8.30 pm and informed the fire office. Fire officials said that the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The civic body, in collaboration with a private sanitation agency, collects garbage from various points in the city and dumps it near the Sainik School, from where it is transported to the Bhuasuni dumping yard. The dumping yard built in a land of 66 acres has always been a major concern for residents who have been demanding relocation of the dumping yard.

In July 2016 the village had turned in to a battlefield with police and villagers involving in a pitched battle leaving around 20 persons injured from both the sides.

Police had retaliated to the stone pelting by the angry mob protesting against dumping of garbage at the dumping yard and had fired tear gas shells and rubber bullets.
