Rourkela: A fire broke out at a State Bank of India ATM at Jagda under Jhiripani police limits in Rourkela of Sundargarh district late on Monday night. The fire mishap took place when some miscreants used gas cutters to break open the ATM machine in a bid to loot it.

On being informed, a team of Jhiripani police reached the spot and sized the auto-rickshaw, gas cylinder and other equipment which the miscreants had left while fleeing from the spot following the fire mishap.

The money kiosk was partially damaged due to the inferno. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.

Sources said that the cops are trying to trace the owner of the auto-rickshaw. The three-wheeler has been named as Waheguru and has a registration number OD-14-A 4890.

The incident has raised question mark on the safety of ATMs in the Steel City. Earlier on 20th January, SBI and Canara Bank ATMs were allegedly looted by miscreants. One more ATM was reportedly found broken on the next day in the Civil Township.
