Balasore: Assets worth lakhs were lost in a fire which broke out in Chandaneswar branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) located in Bhogarai block in the wee hours today.
As per the report, smokes started billowing out of from a room of the bank at around 3 am and were noticed by the security guard on-duty. Later, locals swung into action after hearing the siren of the bank and started firefighting efforts.
However, the blaze was brought under control only after fire officials rushed to the spot and tried to contain the flames.
Furniture, vital documents along with several other electronic goods was completely reduced to ashes in the blaze, said bank authorities.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is feared to be behind it.
