Pattamundai: Assets including medical instruments and medicines worth lakhs were gutted in a blaze which broke out in Pattamundai Community Health Centre (CHC) in Kendrapara district late last night.
The incident came to light after a hospital staff noticed smokes billowing out of the ‘Niramaya’ drugs distribution centre located inside the hospital at around 2.30 AM in the night and informed the authorities.
A fire brigade team which reached the CHC after getting intimation from the hospital authorities brought the flames under control later in the night. However, till then computers, fans and medicines kept inside the drugs distribution centre had been reduced to ashes.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the medical authorities have claimed an electric short circuit behind it.
“We hope less amount of medicines have been lost to the fire. District authorities have been informed on it and an assessment of it would be made at the CHC soon in their presence,” said Niarakar Parida, Medical Officer in charge, Pattamundai CHC.
