FIR registered against Odisha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and family members over alleged dowry harassment

Bhubaneswar: A First Information Report (FIR) has been reportedly registered against Odisha MP Bhartruhari Mahtab and his family members over alleged dowry harassment.

As per the reports of some national media, the MP’s daughter-in-law has filed a complaint at the Women Police Station in Bhopal alleging harassment for dowry against Bhartruhari Mahtab, his wife and son.

In her complaint, she reportedly alleged that her family had spent a huge sum of money on her wedding and that she was allegedly being harassed by Bhartruhari Mahtab, his wife and son for dowry.

Meanwhile, a case has been reportedly registered against the Parliamentarian, his wife and son under Indian Penal Code Sections 498 (a) (subjecting a woman to cruelty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

The complainant, a resident of Mahadev Parisar locality here in Madhya Pradesh, had married to Mahtab’s son in December 2016.
