Ferry services halted at Chandabali, 4 ferry launches lay unused

Bhadrak: Ferry services at Chandbali have been halted and four of Government provided ferry launches lay unused.

Two of the ferries were being used for transporting people as well as goods to and fro from Talachua and Dhamra. These two lay unused now on the river bank. Another two were in use for tourists and emergency services. These are not in working condition anymore since last six months. The concerned department has not provided any substitute ferry which has led to extreme displeasure amongst the locals who depended on the ferries.

Meanwhile, the concerned department’s office has confirmed that the two ferries used for transportation are under repair and hence not employable.

The question that arises here is why the under-repair ferries were not replaced by working ferries beforehand. The locals have demanded intervention by the International Maritime Organization and concerned Port officials so that the ferry services can resume in the area.
