Kalahandi: A farmers’ group in protest of delay in paddy procurement blocked NH 26 at Jharkundamala on Wednesday.
The farmers belong to Dharmagarh, Junagarh and Kalampur areas.
The blockade caused major traffic concerns with Jeypore-Bhawanipatna route completely cut off.
As per reports, the Kalahandi mandi has been closed since June 1. Because of this several quintals of paddy lay waste at the mandi. Despite the repeated requests, they were not picked up. The delay in paddy procurement forced the farmers’ to get down to protest.
