Farmers’ contribution for society’s progress incomparable: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik highly appreciated the contribution of the farmers to the society saying their contribution for society’s progress incomparable.

Extending his greetings to the farming community on the occasion of the National Farmers’ Day (Kishan Diwas), Patnaik on his Twitter handle wrote, “I extend my heartfelt greetings to all the farmers who provide food for the World. The contribution made by farmers for the progress of the society is incomparable. On this occasion of Choudhury Charan Singh Jayanti, I offer my prayers and extend my respects to the farmers’ role in the society.”

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved the Krushak Assistant for Livelihood and Income Augmentation (KALIA) Scheme to the tune of Rs 10,000 crore in a bid to provide financial, livelihood, cultivation support along with insurances to the farmers of the state.

The Kisan Divas is celebrated on the birthday of the 5th Prime Minister Choudhary Charan Singh (23 Dec 1902 – 29 May 1987) every year on December 23.

Singh served as the Prime Minister from 28 July 1979 to 14 January 1980. During his tenure as the Prime Minister, he introduced many policies to improve the life of Indian farmers.
