Bhubaneswar: The Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NKSS), an outfit of farmers, on Wednesday called for an Odisha bandh on February 21.

NNKS national convener Akshay Kumar while speaking to Kalinga TV today informed that the farmers’ body called the state-wide bandh to press for their long-standing demands of price, prestige and pension and protest police atrocity against them.

“The bandh will be observed with a theme – ‘Save Democracy, Save Farmers’ and I appeal people of all walks of lives to support us in having a peaceful bandh on February 21,” said Kumar.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the farmers of the state have been demanding price, prestige and pension for the last several years. Time and again they have taken different steps to press their demands.

Earlier on February 6, thousands of farmers were taken into preventive custody while they were on their way to attend a mega rally in the state capital city.

After failing to have the massive rally in front of the state assembly in Bhubaneswar, the peasants under the aegis of NKS staged an economic blockade at Barabati on NH- 16 under Dharmasala police limits on Monday. Besides, they had threatened to intensify their agitation.
