Farmer ‘kills self’ over loan burden

suicideBargarh: A day after Odisha Government announced drought package for farmers suffering crop loss in the state, another farmer committed suicide due to loan burden in Malamunda village under Gaisilet block of Bargarh district.

The deceased has been identified as Indra Bariha.

Family of the deceased farmer informed, he had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh from some private money lenders in the village for paddy cultivation on five acres of land. However, he found himself unable to repay the loan due to crop loss at a later stage. Remaining under stress for few days he attempted a bid on his life by consuming poison and turned critical.

Family members rushed Indra to Padmapur Hospital and then shifted to Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where he died during treatment this morning.
