Famous Chhatar Jatra begins today amid Covid restrictions

Bhawanipatna: The annual festival of Maa Manikeswari of Bhawanipatna known as Chhatar Yatra begins from today.

Maa Manikeswari Devi’s Chhatar Yatra will be held in absence of devotees due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Notably, during this religious event, a ceremonial Chhatar (umbrella) of goddess Manikeswari is taken out from the Manikeswari Devi temple early in the morning to Jenakhalo–located on the outskirts of Bhawanipatna following the performance of secret rituals at the temple.

The Kalahandi district administration has imposed a 20-hour curfew in the district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna from 8 PM on Tuesday. The curfew will remain in force till 4 PM today.

The district administration has imposed restrictions on the entry of outsiders into the district headquarters town of Bhawanipatna.

Worth mentioning, Chhatar Yatra of Maa Manikeswari attracts lakh of devotees to Bhawanipatna on the occasion. Last year also the event was held in absence of devotees in view of the Covid-19 guidelines.
