Dhenkanal: In a tragic incident at least five members of a family including three minor children sustained critical injuries after being hit by a lightning bolt in Baghamunda village under Parjang tehsil here last evening.
The victims have been identified as Chiru Kerei (45), Surati Kerei (30), Gauranga Kerei (15), Tarun Kerei (8) and Lakshman Kerei (8).
The mishap took place at around 6 pm yesterday, minutes after weather condition turned bad in Dhenkanal and thunderstorm along with lightning started occurring. The victim family was staying at home when a lightning bolt hit it, triggering a fire.
Fire officials rushed to the spot and sent the victims to Kamakhyanagar Hospital in a 108 ambulance after rescuing.
The conditions of the victim are stated to be critical.
