Family Assaulted In Nayagarh On The Suspicion Of Being Thieves

Nayagarh: A family at Kotagarh village in Rajsunakhela area in the district was assaulted by villagers on the suspicion of being thieves. Though the incident took place on Monday the matter came to light after the family members were threatened not to return to the village.

As per reports, a robbery took place in the house of one Bhaskar Dora of the village on May 18 following which a complaint was lodged at the local police station. However, the police failed to detect the case.

Subsequently, a Kangaroo Court of the village hired a sorcerer to nab the accused involved in the crime. The sorcerer also suggested performing a ritual in which a cot is moved in and around the village.

The cot finally stopped in front of the house of Gitanjali Dora and branded the family members as thieves. “Though we denied the involvement of any of our family members in the robbery incident, they barged into our house and assaulted us. They intentionally stopped the cot in front of our house,” alleged Gitanjali.

Two of the family members are currently undergoing treatment at the Community Health Centre in Rajsunakhala . “We approached the police and lodged a formal complaint. But the police too asked us to change the content of the complaint,” alleged Gitanjali.
