Blue WhaleBhubaneswar: Timely intervention by family member saved an engineering student here from the vice-like grip of deadly internet game “Blue Whale Challenge” on Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Swadhin Rout (27) of Sasanpadia area in the Old Town here, attracted the attention of his family members as he was visibly under mental stress for the last one month or so. Their suspicion that Swadhin was hooked into some mobile game got further strengthened in the last one week as he stopped attending classes in his engineering college and remained locked up inside his room most of the time. But things went out of control on Tuesday as the victim did not open his room for a very long time in the morning.

The family members of the engineering college called up Lingaraj Police and an Old Town based NGO Pradeep Seva Trust. The door was broken open and a severely injured Swadhin rescued by the police and the NGOo members. Several cut marks were found all over his body with a large blue whale mark on his right arm. Police immediately seized his mobile phone and rushed him to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Hospital for treatment.

The victim is under treatment now and police is investigating the matter.
