Family leaves Odisha village after Maoist threat

Maoist fearMalkangiri: A family left its native village in Malkangiri district on Monday after Maosts branded a member of the family as a police informer and warned him of dire consequences.

The family of 10 of Kamalu Khara in Palem village under Papermetla gram panchayat reached Chitrakonda block on foot to save their lives after the Red rebels held a Kangaroo court in the village a couple of days ago and issued a warning to them.

Branding Kamalu’s elder son Rabi Khara, who works in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and is the sole bread earner of the family a police informer, the Maoists told him to leave the village with family. 

A frightened Kamalu left his home along with eight other members of the family.

Notably, another family from Jantri village under Chitrakonda block in the district had left their home under similar circumstances on September 2.
