Fake Currency Notes Worth Rs 2.5 Lakh Seized In Odisha, Four Arrested

Baripada: Police today busted a fake currency note racket and arrested four persons including a woman in this connection in Mayurbhanj district.

Police have also seized counterfeit currency notes worth Rs 2.5 lakh from the gang. The accused have been identified as Alekh Chandra Palai, Santilata Das, Sk Sarjul and Sk Kalimuddin.

Police said that they busted the gang while conducting a probe into a mobile tower fraud. “The gang used to lure people on the pretext of setting up mobile towers. The accused had assured the complainant to give Rs 35 lakh in lieu of land for the mobile tower and had demanded money. They have collected Rs 22000 in two phases and was about to handover Rs 2.5 lakh as the first instalment towards payment for mobile tower,” said a police official.

Police said that the accused will be brought under remand to trace the root of fake currency notes.
