Failing to pay fine imposed by kangaroo court man commits suicide in Balasore

Soro: A youth has committed suicide after failing to pay a penalty of Rs 50,000 slapped on him by a kangaroo court in Belapur village under Soro police limits in Balasore district over assaulting his minor sister-in-law.

The deceased has been identified as Umesh Rana.

As per the report, Umesh was continuously assaulting the victim, who happens to be his elder brother Suresh Rana’s sister-in-law, since last few days. Suresh’s mother-in-law who happens to be a widow had relocated to Bangalore in search of job a few days back by leaving his minor daughter at his house. However, Umesh was taking advantage of the situation to assault the minor sexually and even physically due to which she had suffered a fracture to her hand.

However, after the girl narrated her ordeal before her mother a few days back she lodged a case at Soro police limits. A kangaroo court was also held in the accused’s village in the presence of both the families where a fine of Rs 50,000 was slapped on him.

Finding him unable to pay the fine Umeash returned home and hung himself to the ceiling of his room by a stole.

Police has seized the body for autopsy and further investigation is underway in the case.
