Eyes Of Four Year Old Dead Child Gouged Out In Odisha

Angul: Tension prevailed at Angul District Headquarters Hospital after eyes of a 4-year-old dead girl was allegedly gouged out at the hospital morgue. The relatives of the deceased later lodged a complaint with the Town police station and sat on a dharna in front of the office of the Chief District Medical Officer.

Parents of the deceased alleged that the eyes of their child were removed in the morgue. “He had a fever for which we rushed him to the hospital. He died at the hospital while undergoing treatment on Thursday. The body was kept in the morgue for postmortem,” said the father of the deceased.

However, the parents were shocked after they found the eyes missing this morning. “The body was kept in the morgue last night. So we strongly suspect the hospital authorities of removing the eyes,’ alleged the mother of the dead child.

Though the hospital authorities did not respond on the incident, an employee of the hospital said that the rats might have eaten the eyes. “One can spot a number of rodents in the mortuary so it is possible that the rats might have consumed the eyes,” said a hospital employee.
