Explosives worth Rs 10 lakh seized in Puri, 2 held

explosivesPipili: In a crackdown against illegal cracker manufacturing units in Puri district, police raided a house in Jayapur Sasan village here on Sunday night and arrested two persons in this connection. Huge cache of explosives worth Rs 10 lakh was also seized from the house.

The arrested persons have been identified as Santosh Sahu of Jeypore Sasan village and his brother in-law Swadhin Sahu of Delang Ghoradia village.

Acting upon a directive issued by Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi to conduct raid on illegal cracker manufacturing units in the district, Pipili Police raided the house of Rabi Sahu and nabbed his son Santosh and son-in-law Swadhin from the spot. However, Rabi managed to give police a slip during the raid.

Puri SP swung into action after a minor girl was killed and four others sustained critical injury in a explosion at an illegal cracker making unit at Bilipada village near Pipili. It was then alleged that a number of cracker units were operating in the district sans a valid license.
