Exploration Wing, Directorate of Geology Holds Annual Meeting

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Geological Service Association, the Association of the officers belonging to the Exploration Wing of the Directorate of Geology under the Steel and Mines Department, held its Annual General Body Meeting on Sunday.

Prafulla Kumar Mallik, Minister of Steel and Mines and Works inaugurated the meeting and graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The Minister inaugurated ‘OGSA Newsletter’, the technical bulletin of the association.

Addressing a full house, the General Secretary of the association Shubhransu Mishra expressed concern over several problems faced by the members of the association. Mishra also pressed upon the Chief Guest to fill up the posts of the Directorate, which are lying vacant for inordinately long periods.

“The officers of this cadre have to carry out exploration work in remote parts of the state for prolonged periods for which they are allowed a meagre sum of Rs150 only per day which is very less in comparison to what the officers of the central government are paid in similar capacity,” said Mishra.

Praising the officers for their notable contribution in the field of mineral development, the Minister in his address assured the members of the association to look into their issues and support their cause. He also advised the officers to adopt a sincere attitude in their day to day work and strive to adopt new technology in the field of mineral exploration.

The Director of Geology Arunbala Mishra advised the geoscientists to be sincere in their endeavours and carry on the good work of the department. She advised them to implement the latest know-how in mineral exploration and keep abreast of the latest information in the field of Geological exploration.
