Bhubaneswar: Former Satyabadi MLA Rama Ranjan Baliarsingh on Thursday tendered his resignation from the primary membership of ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) alleging that he was being ignored in the party for the last one year.

“I have sent my resignation letter to BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” Baliarsingh said while addressing a press meet here today.

“My photo was being used to garner votes in the last Panchyat polls. However, after the polls, the party never asked me to attend any party meeting either at the constituency or the district level,” he alleged.

“Despite being an independent MLA, I had extended my support to the minority BJD Government in 2009 after alliance partner BJP had withdrawn support. But unfortunately, I was deprived of a party ticket for the 2009 Assembly polls,” he added.

Baliarsingh, who was an independent MLA from Satyabadi from 2004 to 2009, did not indicate which party he would join in future.

“I will discuss with the people of my area about my next course of action and act accordingly,” he said.

Meanwhile BJD spokesperson Pratap Keshari Deb said Baliarsingh’s decision was out of his personal choice, and it would not affect the party.
