Puri: The Puri district administration today demolished commercial establishments in and around the Emaar Mutt.
While a major portion of the shops and market complex were demolished earlier, the remaining was evicted today.
Earlier the State Cabinet had approved a proposal directing clearing of all unauthorised structures located within the 75 metres radius of the Jagannath temple to ensure the shrine’s safety and security. The decision was taken on the basis of the recommendations made by Justice BP Das Commission of Inquiry.
Officials said that commercial establishments around the Mangu Mutt are being demolished and the shop owners will be compensated as per the State Government’s R&R policy. “Adequate police personnel were deployed to prevent any untoward incident. The eviction was peaceful,” said an official.
