Every Odisha school to have a pucca kitchen by Dec: CS

Cabinet approves special law to regulate prawn gheries in ChilikaBhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Wednesday said that the state government has set a target of having pucca (concrete) kitchens in each government-run school of the state by December, 2017.

“Out of the 58,000 schools in the state, 16,000 are yet to have concrete kitchens. We intend to furnish these schools with pucca kitchens by December-end. We also have the resources for the construction,” said Padhi while speaking to newsmen after chairing a review meeting in this regard at the state Secretariat.

The government’s decision will definitely bring great relief to lakhs of school students, who consume their mid-day meals in schools. The concrete kitchens will ensure better hygiene.

Numerous cases have been reported of students of government schools falling sick after eating contaminated food as they are being cooked in unhygienic places. There have also been several reports of students falling into the cooked food due to lack of proper infrastructure.
