Ernakulam-Howrah Antodaya Express hits defunct JCB Machine on track in Odisha, 4 passengers injured

Jajpur: Four passengers traveling in Ernakulam-Howrah Antodaya Express were injured after the train hit a defunct JCB machine at a level crossing near Haridaspur station in the district on Wednesday.

As per reports, a JCB machine was passing through the manned level crossing this morning. However, driver of the vehicle left it behind on the railway tracks after it developed some technical error. In the meantime, the Ernakulam-Howrah Express reached the spot and collided with the JCB machine.

While the excavator was severely damaged, at least four passengers of the Express train sustained injuries due to the mishap.

Sources said that a diesel engine has been sent to bring the train, which is stranded at the spot.

Meanwhile, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Khurda Road has suspended the gateman Jashobanta Swain for dereliction of duty.  A probe order also has been given by the official.
