Engine Trial Run Between Nayagarh & Mahipur Station Conducted Successfully

Nayagarh: The trial run of a locomotive engine on the Nayagarh-Mahipur section of the much-discussed Khurda Road-Balangir railway line was successfully conducted on Saturday.

The locomotive covered a distance of 12 kilometre from Nayagarh town to Mahipur station at a speed of about 100 km/hour, infomed Tapadarshi Sahoo, Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) of Khurda Road Division (KUR).

The track is likely to be opened for traffic after a high-level inspection by Commissioner, Railway Safety (CRS) next week.

“Construction work between Nayagarh Town and Mahipur Section has been completed and will be opened for traffic after it is declared fit for running of trains by the CRS, who is scheduled to visit on July 25,” said chief PRO of ECoR JP Mishra.

Noteworthy, the Khurda Road-Balangir railway project is a 289-km-long under construction railway line connecting Khordha Road Junction and Bolangir railway station. On completion, this new rail link will connect the economically backward districts of Nayagarh, Phulbani, Boudh and Sonepur to other parts of the state.

On 15th January 2019 the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first train from Balangir to Bicchupalli Station on Balangir – Khurda Road Route. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by 2021.
