Pandit Umesh Chandra Kar, and eminent Tabla player from Odisha has passed away today early in the morning hours.

He was one of the finest tabla players from Eastern Odisha. He was born in the sacred town of Srikshetra Puri.
He was conferred with the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award award.
He was also conferred with the Ila Panda Sangeet Samman.
The chief minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik has expressed grief on his death. He has offered his condolences to the members of his family. He has also announced that his last rites will be conducted with state honours. He mentioned in his statement that his loss was a huge loss for the music fraternity and the cultural assets of the state.
He was a notable figure in the Hindustani classical music fraternity.
