Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Mayurbhanj, injures elderly man

Baripada: In yet another incident of elephant incursion in the state, a group of 70 elephants wreaked havoc after entering into the Morada block of Mayurbhanj district on Saturday and left an elderly man critically hurt.

The victim has been identified as Narayan Tudu (70) of Paliakuli village. He was trying to drive away the herd when the jumbo attack took place.

Tudu has been admitted to Baripada Medical College in critical condition.

Earlier in the morning, the herd of Jharkhand elephants got separated into two separate groups and caused heavy damage to standing crops in Bhalughera and Brahmanmara villages. While a group of around 30 elephants reached Brahmanmara via Badashol the other group Bhalughera via Phuljhari, says report.

After getting information on the incident forest department officials have reached the block and alerting people through loudspeakers against blocking the way of the jumbos.
