Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Karanjia of Mayurbhanj

Baripada: Adding to the unending episode of wild jumbo attack in the State, a herd of elephants sneaked into Sukruli area of Karanjia sub-division last night and damaged several houses.

The herd of 22 elephants which was reportedly seen in Karanjia area for past 4 months entered into Begunibandha area around 3 am in the night and destroyed one Ramakant Giri’s house. Later the pachyderms damaged vegetable crops farmed by the villagers.

Later the herd sneaked into Rautalipat village and grazed on harvested paddy crops.

After villagers called up forest officials and reported the matter, they rushed to the spot and launched efforts to driver away the herd.

The herd was finally seen roaming near the Mahilasuli forest this morning sparking a chaos among the villagers.
