Elephant herd wreaks havoc in Balasore’s Nilagiri

Balasore: Panic gripped the residents of Nilagiri block of Balasore district last night after a herd of wild elephants sneaked into a number of villages under Jamudiha panchayat and destroyed large stretch of croplands.

As per the report, the herd comprising of 35 elehphants of different age groups entered into villages namely, Bhola Gadia, Bedha Sahi, Prana Bandha, Sata Randa and damaged one house. Later the jumbos grazed on paddy crops stored there and attacked a cow to injured it grievously.

While, the herd was last seen in Bhalukasuni Market, the forest officials lighted a fire in the village by reaching there later.

Meanwhile, road traffic has been badly hit on the National Highway passing near the Jamudiha panchayat due to elephant incursion in past three days.
