Elephant herd tramples one to death, destroy homes & paddy fields in two separate incidents

Keonjhar: A wild elephant herd has caused destruction in two separate incidents in the district by Tuesday morning.

In the first incident, one man was trampled to death by an elephant in Danla village. The deceased has been identified as Tupuli Panda.

As per reports, an elephant herd had entered Danla and attacked Tupuli’s home on Monday night. While other members of the family managed to escape, Tupuli suffered from the tuskers’ wrath.

In the second incident, another elephant herd consisting of 22 elephants entered Inganijharana village under Champua forest range. The tuskers destroyed numerous homes and paddy fields lay waste. Reports confirm that they only enter the villages during the night while during the day time they retire to nearby forests.

These incidents have caused widespread panic in the entire area. The forest department officials have been trying their best to chase away the wild tuskers.
