Elephant herd damage crops, leave people panicked in Puri village

Puri: With no respite in sight from growing elephant incursion incidents in the state in past few days, a herd of jumbos damaged crops in large scale by entering into Manijipur village under Gadabalabhadrapur panchayat in the district on Sunday.

As per the report, a herd of over 20 elephants including calves were seen in the Manijipur early this morning. The pachyderms were witnessed chiefly targeting the paddy crops.

While no loss of life and damage to houses have been caused so far by the herd, people in the area are in a state of panic due to the incident.

Meanwhile, forest officials have reached the village and are trying to disperse the elephants.
