Keonjhar: A wild elephant herd has been causing widespread damage to paddy fields in Chamakpur of Champua forest range here.
The elephant herd has also damaged a few houses putting the locals in extreme panic.
The Forest department officials were immediately informed of the situation. The officials sprang into action and were able to chase away the tuskers momentarily. It is reported that the herd is hiding at the nearby forest range.
The size of the herd is not known yet while the locals have been asked to stay alert at all times.
