Elephant found dead in Balasore forest, tusks missing

Balasore: In yet another case of suspected poaching in the State, carcass of a jumbo has been found in Tenda area under Kuldiha Forest Range in Balasore district today with its tusks missing.

The incident came to light after some locals who had visited the forest came across the carcass lying near Kuldiha Forest Rest House (FRH) and called up forest officials.

Officials of Nilagiri Forest Division accompanied by Veterinary doctors rushed to the spot and conducted the preliminary investigation to sent the carcass for autopsy.

The carcass seems to be 2-3 days old and the hands tusk smugglers in the killing could not be ruled out. However, the truth could be revealed only after the completion of the autopsy, said Balasore DFO Biswaraj Panda.
