Elephant Calf Found Dead In Odisha Forest

Subarnapur: An elephant calf was found dead near Baghapalli under Ullunda forest range in the district today. Forest officials have started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the death of the elephant calf.

Forest officials said that the calf was the part of a herd of 24 elephants which has been roaming in the forest for past one month. “Prima-facie it appeared that the calf was weak. We will conduct a post-mortem to ascertain the cause of death,” said a forest official.

Earlier in last month a carcass of an elephant was found without its tusks from Sarasadadar forest under the Ullunda forest range. Subsequently two forest officials Janardan Swain Prgnya Paramita Mishra were suspended for dereliction of duty.
