Narasinghpur: An elderly woman drowned after falling down a well at her house in Hatia Palli village under Narasinghpur police limits in Cuttack district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Koushalya Naik (75).
The mishap took place early in the morning while the victims went to the well to fetch water. She lost balance due to head reeling and plunged into the well to die subsequently.
After some villagers found Koushalya floating in the well and intimated the local fire brigade office the latter recovered the body from water.
Koushalya was sick for past few months and was suffering from a kidney related ailment, said her neighbours. They claimed suitable financial assistance to his kin who happen to be very poor.
Police have lodged a case of unnatural death in the incident.
