Elderly woman critical in wild bear attack in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: Adding to the unending episode of human-animal conflict in the State, an elderly woman sustained critical injuries after getting mauled by a wild bear in Dengaguda village under Koksara police limits in Kalahandi district on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Surekha Bag of the same locality.

As per the report, Surekha had been to attend nature’s call to a field located near his house in the wee hours when the attack took place. An Indian sloth bear which had sneaked into the village in search of food pounced on her to maul badly.

Family members of the victim reached the spot after hearing his screaming and drove away the bear. Later, she was rushed to Koksara hospital in a critical condition.

Surekha has been shifted to Bhawanipatna District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment of late.
