Elderly man swept away by floodwaters in Kalahandi

Bhawanipatna: In a rain-related casualty, an elderly man has been swept away in floodwaters in Dedhasuli village under M Rampur block of Kalahandi district last night.

The deceased has been identified as Uchhendra Majhi (60) of the same village.

Ucchendra, who had been to Pulinat village along with two relatives yesterday noon was returning back on a motorcycle in the same night when the mishap took place. They were trying to wade through the floodwaters which was flowing above the Kalipuling canal bridge near Sadghati when lost balance and fell off the bike.

While the rest two saved their lives by swimming through the water Uchhendra was swept away into the canal and went missing.

Local Police and Fire officials rushed to the spot later and launched a search operation to find out the victim in the canal but failed. His body was found floating in the canal near Tagabaju village this morning.

Barakhama Police has rushed the body for autopsy and lodged a case of unnatural death in the case.
