Balangir: An elderly man was killed in lightning strike in Kapilabhata village under Bangomunda police limits in Balangir district last night.
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Hans of the same locality.
The mishap took place soon after Nor’wester rain lashed the village in the evening bringing heavy downpour along with lightning and gusty wind. Naveen, who had been to attend nature’s call along with his nephew to a nearby field was struck with a lightning bolt and turned critical on the spot.
The victim was immediately rushed Kantabanji Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared him brought dead.
However, the victim’s nephew remained unhurt in the incident.
A pal of gloom has descended on the village following the lightning strike.
