Mayurbhanj: An elderly man has been killed in an elephant attack at Dari village under Dudhiani range of Karanjia in Mayurbhanj late on Wednesday night. The deceased has been identified as Goutam Nayak.
Reportedly, a herd of elephants was being chased away by the forest officials late last night when a jumbo entered Dari village following which the panic-stricken locals were running around.
However, the elderly man Goutam Nayak fell into the elephant’s trap and sustained severe injuries following the attack. He was rushed to the nearby hospital, however, he was declared brought dead.
Due to the elephant scare in the Karanjia forest area, several lives are lost. The locals have demanded the forest department to pay special attention regarding this issue and demanded financial assistance to the victim’s families.
