Elderly man critical in wild bear attack in Ganjam village

Bhanjanagar: An elderly man was critically hurt after a wild bear attacked him in Borasingh village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Debaraj Nayak of Borasingh village.

The incident took place early in the morning while Debaraj was on his way to a nearby forest to attend nature’s call, unaware of the presence of a wild bear in the area. The bear which is suspected to have sneaked into the village last night in search of food attacked Debaraj on the road and left him in critical condition.

Debaraj who sustained grievous injury on his head, face and legs was later rescued by his family members and rushed to Aska CHC and then shifted to MKCG Medical in Berhampur. His condition remains to be critical.

Three back to back wild bear attacks under the Kabisuryanagar police limits in last three days have left the villager in the area in a state of panic. While on the day of the holy Shiv Ratri on Wednesday a man sustained critical injury while picking up flowers in Jamunagan village, another person was also hurt in the area a day later, after a bear attacked him.
