Angul: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict in Odisha, an elderly man sustained grievous injuries in a bear attack in Gengutia Nuasahu village under Rengali Police limits on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Bankanidhi Pradhan.

Bankanidhi, who visited his crop field this morning, was surrounded by a pack of three bears while he was busy sowing seeds. As the victim tried to escape from the spot, the bears chased him and growled and snarled menacingly. The animals left the spot after he fell unconscious. Later, some villagers rescued Bankanidhi and rushed him to Rengali Hospital in a critical condition.

The incident has left people in the area panicky. Villagers demanded that the district administration and the forest officials should take serious note of the wild animals straying into the village. They claimed that the wild animal attack had become a regular affair in the village leaving a number of people injured in the last couple of months.
