Baliguda: An elderly man committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Simanbadi village under Daringbadi police limits in Kandhamal district yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Khanam Nayak, a resident of the same village.
Khanam was found in a critical condition on the terrace of his house last evening. As foam was also seen draining out of the victim’s mouth, his family members rushed him to Daringbadi CHC suspecting a suicide attempt.
While doctors confirmed pesticide consumption by the victim upon his arrival at the hospital, he was shifted to Baliguda Sub Divisional Hospital later and died under treatment there.
While the real cause behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that the victim could have taken the extreme step due to a family feud.
Police have seized the body for autopsy and started investigation in the case.
