Baripada: Unidentified miscreants stabbed an elderly couple to death in Kukudajhadi village under Baripada Sadar police limits in Mayurbhanj district last night for unknown reasons.
The deceased has been identified as Purna Hembram and his wife Sing Hembram.
The murder came to light this morning after neighbours of the deceased found them lying in a pool of blood on their beds and called up police. Grievous injury marks were found on the head and neck parts of the victims.
Baripada Sadar Police reached the spot and conducted preliminary investigation. It was waiting for the scientific team to assist in the probe till this report was being filed.
While the assailants’ motive behind the elderly couple’s murder is yet to be ascertained, locals said the killed couple was very cordial to their neighbours and with no past record of enmity with anybody in the village.
The only son of the killed couple who was staying away from his parents after his marriage has been informed on the incident and he could reach the village shortly, said police.
