ECoR Returns Valuables Worth Rs 54 Lakh Through Helpline 182

Bhubaneswar: Valuables worth Rs 54 lakh have been returned to train passengers this year so far through railway security helpline number 182, East Coast Railway (ECoR) said today.

The valuables include gold ornaments worth more than Rs 26 lakh, cash worth more than Rs 4 lakh, 31 laptops and as many as 96 mobile phones.  The helpline is run and operated by Railway Protection Force (RPF).

“As per available data, in the first eight months of this calendar year, in East Coast Railway jurisdiction, there have been 310 cases of recoveries. Similarly we have also handed over thousands of important documents of passengers so far,’ said an ECoR official.

Passengers call up the universal helpline number mostly to report lost items and theft of valuables. After these are traced and recovered, RPF personnel call up the concerned passengers and return their items under proper receipt and acknowledgement.
