Economist Surjit Bhalla quits PM’s economic advisory council

New Delhi: Noted economist Surjit Bhalla has stepped down as the member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (PMEAC or EAC-PM). The announcement came a day after Urjit Patel’s resignation as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) yesterday.

Bhalla’s resignation came to fore after he disclosed it on Twitter today while sharing his latest column written for a newspaper. He informed that the resignation had been tendered on December 1.

Notably, Bhalla was working as a part-time member of the EAC-PM, headed by Niti Aayog member Bibek Debroy. Other part-time members of the think tank-like body are Rathin Roy, Ashima Goyal and Shamika Ravi.
