Economic blockade on NH 353 in Odisha

Nuapada: The vehicular traffic on NH 353 crippled from the district headquarter to Boden in Odisha as the protestors had staged a 24-hour economic blockade on Tuesday to press their demand for expediting the repair work of the NH.

The economic road blockade protest was called by Nagarika Sachetan Manch. Hundreds of protestors staged economic blockades in various places in the district including Khariar, Komna, Udyanabandha, Kurumapuri, Sinapali and Boden in support of their demand.

Hundreds of trucks came to a grinding halt on the NH passing through these areas due to the protest. Hence, transportation of goods in these areas was severely affected.

However, private bus services were exempted from the purview of the road blockade.

Notably, Rs 135.78 Cr has been sanctioned to repair the 65 KM long road from Kurumpari in Nuapara district to Bangomunda in Balangir district of NH 353.

The contract of repair work of the NH was awarded to Chennai based GVR Infra limited and was scheduled to finish by June 11, 2016. However, the repair work was not finished yet leading to several road mishaps on the NH.
