DySP Ganapathi suicide: CBI files case against Odia IPS officer

GanapathiBengaluru: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a case against Karnataka cadre Odia IPS officer Pranab Mohanty in connection with DySP M K Ganapathi suicide incident of last year. Cases were also registered against former Bengaluru city development minister K J George and another IPS officer A M Prasad.

All three have been named as accused in the case.

The action on the part of the CBI came after it started probe into the case following a Supreme Court order for the same on September 5, this year. The apex court had asked the investigation agency to file a status report on the probe within 3 months.

The Odia IPS officer Mohanty who currently serves as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Likayukta, Bengaluru fell in trouble after a television interview video cropped up days after Gantapathi’s death in which the later was seen blaming him along with Prasad and George for harassment.

Ganapathi committed suicide in a lodge in Kodagu on July 7, 2016 when serving as DySP of Mangaluru. Ganapathi also left a video message in which he was seen holding KJ George, AM Prasad and Pranab Mohanty responsible for his extreme step.
