Guwahati: Ace sprinter from Odisha Dutee Chand set a new national record in women’s 100m race on Friday. Dutee set the record while participating at the 58th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships-2018 being held here at Sarusajai Stadium.

Dutee finished first in Heat-2 of the semi-final round of women’s 100m sprint clocking 11.29 seconds, thereby breaking the national record which she herself had created last year with a timing of 11.30 at the Indian Grand Prix, New Delhi.

Speaking exclusively to Kalinga TV Chand said, “I had taken part in both 100m and 200m events during the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships. I have already won the silver medal in the 200m event. Today I set a new national record by clocking 11.29 seconds while running for the semifinal event in the 100m category. With this I also gave the best timing in the entire Asia. My best timing was 11.30 second which I had set at the Indian Grand Prix, New Delhi last year.”

“The final round will be held at 7 PM today. I am eying on the gold with a timing of 11.20 seconds, which I hope I can achieve,” she added.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the ace sprinter.

Dutee has qualified for the Jakarta Asian Games in both 100m and 200m events which will be held between August 18 and September 2.
