Dutee Chand, Purnima Hembram shine in Indian Grand Prix

Patiala : Ace sprinter Dutee Chand, who was embroiled in a gender case, clinched the gold medal in the 100m event at the Indian Grand Prix Athletics Meet held at the National Institute of Sports here  on Tuesday.

Odisha girl Dutee recorded a timing of 11.57 seconds, while Assam’s Hima Das and Karnataka’s Prajna Prakash won the silver and bronze medals with a timing of 11.74 seconds and 11.76 seconds respectively.

Apart from Dutee, another girl from Odisha Purnima Hembram clinched the bronze medal in the women Long jump event in the Championships with a jump of 5.99 metre.

Nayana James and Neena Pinto, both from Kerla, bagged the gold and silver medals in the women Long jump event.

Currently, Dutee studies in KIIT University in Bhubaneswar while Purnima is a student of KISS University in the capital city of Odisha.
