Dushmanta Das suicide case: SCB submits report to Odisha Govt

Bhubaneswar: In a recent development, the authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack submitted a report on the youth who died on Wednesday after attempting suicide in front of the Odisha Assembly over alleged neglect in treatment.

Reportedly, a seven-member medical team submitted the report to the government on Thursday in which the hospital administration has refuted the charges of any medical negligence.

The deceased, identified as Dusmanta Das, had come to the hospital after suffering injuries in a road accident, added reports. A team of doctors of the plastic surgery and orthopaedic department had performed surgery and the team tried their best to save his leg.

Later, he was advised to undertake physiotherapy and wear special orthopaedic shoes as the nerves of his leg were damaged. However, he didn’t follow the advice of the doctors.

It is also mentioned in the report that the SCB Medical College and Hospital provided best treatment to Dusmanta free of cost. Following this, he was discharged and referred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for an advanced treatment.

On the other hand, Dushmanta’s mother has brought serious allegations to the police claiming that her son has been killed. She added that somebody has conspired against Dushmanta following which he was asked to go to Assembly and allegedly commit suicide infront of the gate.

As Dushmanta was unable to walk properly due to his leg injury, his family has raised questions such as how did he walk up to the state Assembly and from where did he get the poison to commit suicide. His family has demanded for strict action against the culprit in relation with Dushmanta’s death.

It is worth mentioning that, Dushmanta had attempted suicide in front of Odisha Assembly on September 8 by slitting his hand allegedly due to medical negligence. He was rushed to SCB Hospital in a critical condition for immediate treatment following which he lost his life on the same night while being under treatment.
